In the race to revolutionize mandolin construction and sound back during the ‘craze’, Boston-based Vega came up with the ‘Cylinder back’ which is essentially an exaggerated reverse archtop.
This little nugget found its way to the Home needing a little bit of work. The tailpiece had pulled off and there was a lack of support due to a loose brace near the neck-block which resulted in a crack and some slight top sinkage. Also there was a crack on the treble side.
The wizard Steve Morrill took a few months and got her back in excellent working order but for the the already sunk top: the brace was reglued and reinforced by a small piece of spruce. It ain’t going anywhere now.
Comes with the original hard leather case which has seen several better days.
