On lunch breaks I would often bring in a small thang and go sit somewhere in the Boston Common or Public Garden and practice. The easiest one for this is this Martin Backpacker Mandolin.
Not a blemish, has the sound you’d expect from an instrument that has most of its sound resonating capabilities removed by design. But darn if it isn’t cute and portable. Soft case.
