c. 1917 Lyon & Healy “Own Make” Style A Mandolin

The home thought it was pouring before, but the deluge continues. Following on the heels of the now departed asymmetrical L&H style A, comes a symmetrical long scale Style A. Approximate dating based on the label characteristics in the Washburn book.

Someone surely loved this mandolin as it came to the home needing a refret, expertly done by M. Girouard, who also sealed a small top crack. Beautiful flamed maple back which matches the mandobass, and otherwise all original down to the green-lined case. It sounds deep and rich and sweet and all things Lyon & Healy.

One interesting feature is that the label serial number (#39) does not match the block stamp (#79), where in other cases they do. Perhaps it was simply label-writer error.
