Vega Cylinder Back Model 201 – Parts/Restoration

In the race to revolutionize mandolin construction and sound back during the ‘craze’, Boston-based Vega came up with the ‘Cylinder back’ which is essentially an exaggerated reverse archtop.

This little nugget found its way to the Home needing a little bit of work. The tailpiece had pulled off and there was a lack of support due to a loose brace near the neck-block which resulted in a crack and some slight top sinkage. Also there was a crack on the treble side.

There had been previously a repaired crack along the fretboard extension which eventually let go. The top is not salvageable, but everything else is original and in relatively good shape.

Comes with the original hard leather case which has seen several better days.
