The Home has been after an F-4 ever since selling the 1924ish one to finance the Kalamazoo Mandobass.
Meet ‘Galadriel’, a glorious goddess of craftsmanship and tone.
The 1911 F-4s were part of the transitional period between the 3 and 2 point mandolins. This is one one of the first of the 2 points. Also of note, the vast majority of F-4s come in the sunburst or black finishes; the natural color of this one is extremely uncommon. One-piece curly back with original finish. All the hardware is original — Handel inlaid tuners, violin style clamp pickguard, non-adjustable bridge. And that gorgeous double-flowerpot inlay.
The label is missing and a serial # is pencilled in, but the FON stamped on the neck block clearly dates it to 1911.
Apart from a repair to the large headstock scroll, the body has no issues apart from some normal wear. Even so the top and sides have been oversprayed at some point. Also done is a full refret with gold evo wire; with the fingerboard extension frets being filed flat.
There is a small 1.5″, glued, crack (not pictured) extending from below the scroll to the sound hole.
Has the original case in very good condition (only light wear to the interior & a replaced handle).
