Circa 1918 Gibson Style O Artist Guitar – SOLD

Meet “Wanda”, a regular scarlet sorceress, and close kin to Melisandre.  The Gibson Style O Artist guitar was, at the time, the top of the line Gibson in terms of artistry and craftsmanship.  Not surprisingly the guitar echoes the Mandolin roots of the early Gibson “Mandolin-Guitar” company having ornate scrollwork and a “point” like the early F-style mandolins.

Wanda has seen a lot in nearly 100 years, coming to the home with an excellently repaired back crack, some considerable belt rash, and a fair amount of dings and dents commensurate with some exuberant playing.  The label is half missing so it is impossible to date her (though you can sure ask her out) without that and a visible FON.

The tuners have been replaced (and could stand replacing a second time), the pickguard is missing, the bridge has likely been replaced with an adjustable model, and the tailpiece also seems to have been replaced.   The case is not original.

There are a few setbacks, but nothing quite gives you that Big Bill Broonzy blues sound like one of these old Gibsons.
