1999(ish) Guild D-55

The Workhorse.  I bought this beauty, used,  somewhen around 1997/8 and it has been my gigging guitar ever since.

I wasn’t planning to, mind you.  I walked into Mr. Music in Allston (Rock City), and in the span of about 10 minutes I looked around, picked it up, strummed it once and put down a $200 down payment.  With the outrageous interest on credit cards, I bet it took me 10 years to pay it off fully.

Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides. Walnut/Mahogany neck with gorgeous abalone inlays.  She’s emblematic of all that is great about high-end Guild guitars — a solid middle and top end with a deliciously full bottom and sustaaaaaiiiiiin.  Action so low you can’t believe it doesn’t buzz.

She’s got some nicks and dents and general play wear.  The awful humidity/dryness of the northeast has popped the neck and headstock binding more times than I can count.  No real condition issues at all.  I had a friend who installed a Fishman transducer pickup under the saddle.  She’s only been serviced by Pat Diburro and the Guild experts at Crossroads Music in Hanover.

Original plush case.
