So back in the 90s I was intensely following the Boston funk band, Chucklehead, amazed by the low-thumping prowess of both their bass players, Dave Rengel and Mick Demopoulous. It just so happened that I lived across the street from Mick, so I asked him about lessons. I was running with Fender P-Bass but wanted to be able to play those Chucklehead lines so in 1994, I went to E.U. Wurlitzer (RIP) and traded it for an Epiphone Expert-6 String Bass on Mick’s recommendation.
I really loved the tone I got out of it and its slightly narrower neck made it easier to play. But I got my Sukop (also from Mick) so I sold it to my roomate.
Then a litany of basses later I found myself pining for it again so I bought another one in 1999/2000. This one was a little souped up though having been customized with Bartolini pickups.
